Family Nurse Practitioner | Family Medicine
Kristin “Kris” Epps-Martinez, APRN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing comprehensive, individualized healthcare that puts the patient at the center of every decision. She believes strongly that patients are people, not numbers, and that exceptional healthcare begins by taking the time to listen, ask questions, and understand the whole person—not simply treating a symptom or diagnosis.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Kris earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College in December 2011. After years of experience as a registered nurse, she returned to Clarkson College and earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2022, becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Kris’s path to healthcare began long before she became a nurse. Prior to nursing, she spent 8½ years as a 911 dispatcher with Sarpy County. Working behind the radio gave her the opportunity to help people during some of the most difficult and frightening moments of their lives, but it also inspired her to want to do more. She wanted to move beyond the radio and be able to care for people hands on. That desire to make a more direct difference in the lives of others ultimately led her to nursing and continues to influence the way she cares for patients today.
NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS
Kris is currently accepting new patients. Whether you are searching for answers to ongoing symptoms, managing a chronic health condition, looking for a primary care provider who will take the time to listen, or simply want to be proactive about staying healthy, Kris looks forward to partnering with you to improve and protect your health for years to come.
Approach to Care
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Kris takes a whole-person approach to medicine. Rather than focusing solely on individual symptoms or lab values, she works to understand the bigger picture of a patient’s health. Medical history, hormones, metabolic health, nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, medications, stress, family history, and other factors can all play a role in how someone feels. Her goal is to look deeper, identify potential underlying contributors to health concerns, and create an individualized, evidence-informed plan for each patient.
Kris understands how frustrating it can be when a patient knows something is not right but has struggled to find answers. She believes patients deserve a provider who will listen to their concerns, take their symptoms seriously, and work alongside them to investigate the “why” behind how they are feeling.
She is equally passionate about preventive medicine and long-term wellness. Healthcare should not only focus on treating illness once it occurs. Kris encourages patients to be proactive about their health by identifying risk factors early, addressing concerns before they become larger problems, managing chronic conditions effectively, and making sustainable changes that support lifelong health.
Care Philosophy
At the heart of Kris’s practice is a simple philosophy: listen first, investigate thoughtfully, and treat the person not just the diagnosis. She wants every patient to leave their appointment feeling heard, respected, educated, and actively involved in their healthcare decisions.
BEYOND THE CLINIC
Outside of the clinic, Kris is an avid animal lover and spent many years actively involved in 4-H with her children, sharing her love of animals and agriculture with her family. When the sun is shining, there’s also a good chance you’ll find her spending the day at the soccer fields, cheering from the sidelines.
Kris is also passionate about giving back to her community. She has completed the 50 Mile March three times, taking on the demanding 50-mile walk in support of its mission, and she is already preparing to complete her fourth 50 Mile March in the summer of 2027. Her participation reflects the same qualities she brings to her patients every day: commitment, perseverance, compassion, and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
For Kris, caring for people extends well beyond the walls of the clinic. Family, community, service, and helping others are at the heart of both who she is and how she practices medicine.
